Bobcat Soccer Falls on the Road to #25 Carson-Newman, 5-1

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Georgia College Soccer team (1-1) dropped their final game of the weekend Sunday afternoon, falling to the hosting No. 25 Carson-Newman Eagles (2-0), 5-1.

Sunday's contest began very evenly with both sides getting some early opportunities, but no conversions through the first 24 minutes.  The Eagles struck first with a goal in the late 24th minute from Jaidyn Zapf, giving them a 1-0 advantage that held until the half.

Not too much action in the early going of the second half until Carson-Newman extended their lead with another goal in the 59th minute, putting the game at 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.

Georgia College fought its way back into the contest with a goal in the 76th minute from senior Amanda Bartholomew (Peachtree City, Georgia) to get the Bobcats within one, with roughly 12 minutes remaining.  Bartholomew picked the pocket of the Eagle defender just outside the goalie box, drew the goalie out towards her, then bent her strike over the keeper's reach for the score.  Bartholomew's goal is her third of the season and put the game at 2-1 heading down the final stretch.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Carson-Newman fired right back with three unanswered goals in the last 10 minutes of the match, securing the win for the Eagles 5-1.

The powerful Eagle offense gave Bobcat keeper Ashlee Graham (Decatur, Georgia) a difficult day in the box, firing 13 shots on goal at the junior.  Graham received her first loss of the 2017 campaign, but managed to tally eight saves for the afternoon.

The Bobcats look to get back in the winning column when they host the Queens University Royals for their home opener at Bobcat Field in Milledgeville Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
