MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Women’s Tennis team has earned a slight lead in the classroom over every other Bobcat squad by accumulating a 3.63-combined GPA for the fall semester.
“Our consistent academic success is an expectation at Georgia College,” said Director of Athletics Wendell Staton. “We have the right combination of outstanding student-athletes, faculty, staff, and coaches who know these four years are vital to the preparation for the next 40 years.”
GC Athletics teams compete against each other for academic superiority every year by means of team GPA. The women’s tennis team is looking to maintain their title of top GPA from the 2015-16 season.
“I am very proud of our student-athletes who consistently perform well in both the classroom and on the athletic fields and courts,” said Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Ken Farr. “Their academic performance is evidence of how well they fit in at Georgia College and it shows the great job our coaches do in recruiting excellent students who also happen to be athletes. Kudos for a job well done!”
Just behind women’s tennis in the Bobcat Athletic Department standings are men’s cross country and women’s cross-country, coming in at a 3.57 and 3.54 respectively, in the fall semester.
Eight of the 11 teams posted GPA’s over a 3.0. Fall 2016 marks the ninth-consecutive semester with the Athletic Department as a whole posting over a 3.0 GPA.
Each year the top team GPA for Fall and Spring semester is honored with a trophy at the next year’s Welcome Back Picnic.
