#3 Bobcat Baseball Splits Day at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. – The No. 3 Georgia College baseball team (3-2) took game one at the University of West Georgia (3-1) 8-2 Friday before dropping the second contest in the day's doubleheader 10-4.

Senior righty Eric Pettepher (Gordon, Ga.) was successful in the first start of his senior campaign, going six innings while scattering eight hits for just two runs. He struck out four and walked just a pair.

The Bobcats plated five runs in the second to really get it going, including a three-run home run from centerfielder Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.) and a two-run blast off the bat of shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.).

Catcher Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) was 2-for-4 in game one with a run, Shawn Ward (Evans, Ga.) 2-for-5 with an RBI. Senior Tanner Moore (Thomasville, Ga.) threw the final three innings for his first career save.

Justin Key (0-1) went just two innings in the loss. First baseman Andy Marinelli was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

The Bobcats started out hot in game two, but a seven-run fifth did in GC's chances at a sweep. The Bobcats had a 4-0 lead after their second trip to the plate, and still led 4-3 into the bottom of the fifth when the wheels came off.

Lefty starter Jason Nicholas (Wright City, Mo.) went 4 2/3 innings allowing all seven runs to take the loss (1-1). UWG starter Brandon Crumbley (2-0) went all seven in the complete game effort.

The 'Cats managed just four hits, as the final five slots in the order went a combined 0-for-12. All four hits were for extra bases, as GC tallied three doubles and a Pirkle solo blast. The senior catcher has three home runs in the five games this season. Marinelli moved behind the plate in game two, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run.

The Bobcats are back in action Sunday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m., hosting the same UWG baseball team for a doubleheader at John Kurtz Field.
