MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A masterful pitching performance by senior Brady Walsh (Marietta) gave the No. 24 Georgia College Bobcats (27-9, 13-6 PBC) a 1-0 victory over the visiting Augusta University Jaguars (15-22, 7-12 PBC) at John Kurtz Field Friday evening.
It was a fast-paced game in Milledgeville Friday night with just eight hits tallied between the two ballclubs. Each squad had four hits, but the Bobcats managed to push one across with two outs in the bottom of the third.
Second-baseman Garrett Green (Bogart) got a two-out rally going in the third with a hot-shot in left-centerfield gap, placing himself in scoring position for the top of the order. Freshman Cal Gentry (Perry) came up with a clutch two-out RBI single through the right side to score what would be the game-winning run.
Walsh made just his second conference start of the year and performed like he had been there all season. The senior righthander hurled 7 1/3 shutout innings, while only allowing four hits and striking out five. Colin LoCurto (Kennesaw) relieved Walsh in the middle of the eighth with a man on and one out. LoCurto worked his way out of the inning and put up a big zero for the Bobcats. Closer Grant Khan (Richmond, Texas) closed the door on the Jags in the ninth with a one-two-three inning, including a strikeout to earn his sixth save of the 2017 season.
Georgia College looks to take the series from the Jaguars at John Kurtz Field for a doubleheader Saturday, April 15 at noon.
