GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 1 Georgia College Baseball team continues to bring in the region's top honors, as the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Team was announced Wednesday. The Bobcats put four student-athletes on the team, and senior Charlie Hecht (Johns Creek, Georgia) earned Region Pitcher of the Year through the third organization this season.
Hecht is now a consensus Region Pitcher of the Year, having earned the honor through all three possible organizations, the first Georgia College pitcher to ever complete this feat. He finished his final season in blue and green at 11-1 with a 3.03 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 104 innings. Hecht is just the second Bobcat to earn Region Pitcher of the Year through the ABCA, joining Matt Goyen in 2005.
Joining Hecht on the All-Region First Team was senior outfielder Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia). The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year, he beat up on opponent pitching for a .400 average, nine home runs, 67 RBIs and 62 runs scored. This marks the second ABCA All-Region honor in Mattix's career.
The second ABCA All-Region award for Miller, he was a first-team choice in the outfield in 2016. He hit .405 this season with six home runs, 40 RBIs and 65 runs, finishing the year on a 32-game hit streak. Miller is the fourth first baseman to win this honor in school history, joining Clay Ardeeser in 2014, GC Hall of Famer Chris Carr in 2001 and Chris Grady in 1995.
Cammack was a lights-out relief option for Georgia College, setting the school record with 13 victories as part of a 13-2 season with five saves. He added a 2.54 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 85 innings of work. The last reliever to boast ABCA All-Region status was both Michael Newman and Matt Howard in 2007.
All-time, Georgia College has now had 67 student-athletes named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region list since 1994, including seven in the two seasons with head coach Jason Eller.
The season has come to a close for the Bobcats, a year in which they went 44-12 with the most Peach Belt Conference (PBC) victories by any team since 1998, and the first back-to-back PBC Tournament titles since 1998 as well. The Bobcats put eight on the All-PBC Teams and six on the All-Region squads.
