AUSTIN, Texas – The honors keep coming for one of the top student-athletes in Georgia College Baseball history, as senior Logan Mattix (Loganville, Georgia) was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Wednesday.

Mattix owns a 3.66 GPA in marketing, and is the first GC Baseball player to take both All-America and Academic All-America trophies in the same season. The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Player of the Year, he beat up on opponent pitching for a .400 average, nine home runs, 67 RBIs and 62 runs scored. Mattix is the third academic All-American in program history, joining Clayten Ayres in 2017 and Will Collins in 1995. Mattix is the lone representative on this list from the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). Two of the three have come during head coach Jason Eller's tenure.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.

The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 DII and DIII Academic AllAmerica® teams.

The season has come to a close for the Bobcats, a year in which they went 44-12 with the most PBC victories by any team since 1998, and the first back-to-back PBC Tournament titles since 1998 as well. Leading all of Division II in batting average and fielding percentage, the Bobcats put eight on the All-PBC Teams and six on the All-Region squads, adding All-America honors for Mattix, Nate Schmal and Charlie Hecht.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
