MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – With the series victory already in hand, the Georgia College Baseball team (13-10, 7-6 PBC) fell short of the sweep Sunday against No. 4 University of North Georgia (17-8, 7-5 PBC) the Nighthawks escaping with a 7-4 win.
A four-run second was just about all UNG would need. Second baseman Cal Gentry (Perry) cut the lead in half with a two-run single in the third. After UNG insurance runs in the fourth and sixth, an Austin Holloway (Social Circle) single brought the score to 6-3. Another run for the Nighthawks in the eighth was matched by one in the bottom of the ninth, but the rally fell short there.
Holloway had a big ballgame, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Gentry also had three hits, that RBI single in the third going for the 200th in his career. Third baseman Garrett Green (Bogart) was 2-for-5.
Righty starter Chandler Amason (Grayson) took the loss (0-2) in 3 1/3 innings of work, tallying four strikeouts.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 20 at 6 p.m., taking on No. 7 University of Mount Olive at Lexington County Baseball Stadium in Lexington, South Carolina.
