#2 Golf Puts Three on PBC All-Academic Team

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its first PBC Men's Golf All-Academic Team, with players from No. 2 Georgia College & State University taking three of the five spots.

Junior Niclas Johansson (Skanor, Sweden) joined a pair of sophomores in Billy Shida (Berkeley Lake, Ga.) and Matthew Yonz (Waycross, Ga.) on the five-member team.

Yonz owns the top GPA on the team and one of the highest in the GCSU athletic department at 3.92 in chemistry. Shida owns a 3.57 in economics and Johansson has a 3.35 in management with a minor in international business.

The team is part of a new season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieve a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) complete at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The PBC Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.

The Bobcats took fifth at the NCAA Southeast/South SuperRegional, earning a bid to the NCAA Finals May 17-20. The finals will take place at the Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. hosted by Western Washington University.
