KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Georgia College Golf team began its 2019-20 campaign along the coast of South Carolina in the season-opening Kiawah Island Invitational hosted by USC Aiken. In addition to the Pacers, the invitational features Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foes Columbus State University and Lander University.
Freshman Mike Leanos (Kennesaw, Georgia) made a positive impression in his first action as a Bobcat, leading the team, along with Bailey Scifleet (Canberra, Australia) in the first round, both carding a 72 and finishing at par. Alex Wells (Evans, Georgia) was just behind at two-over with Isaac Samples (Loganville, Georgia) at five-over andMichael Zachary (Johns Creek, Georgia) at six-over.
Georgia College finishes day one tied for 12th at seven-over par ahead of No. 21 Columbus State, finishing at nine-over. USC Aiken sits atop the pack with a three stroke lead over Valdosta State University.
Lander's Jon Parker leads the individual field of 90 golfers at six-under after the first round of play.
The second and final round of action gets underway tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. on Kiawah Island. Georgia College will be paired with Anderson University and Lenoir-Rhyne University on the back nine.
