MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Getting 20 points from Jordan Thomas (Conyers) and double-doubles from both Isaac Thomas (Trion) and Kohl Roberts (Atlanta), the Georgia College Men's Basketball team (7-5, 2-4 PBC) topped Georgia Southwestern State University (2-9, 0-5 PBC) 70-60 Wednesday morning in the Centennial Center.
Playing in front of a raucous crowd of 4,000-plus for Baldwin County Education Day, the Bobcats didn't disappoint, emerging from the 40-minute battle with their second win in a row.
Sophomore Jordan Thomas netted 23 points, his second-straight game with 20-plus and fourth overall this season. Roberts posted 15 points with 11 rebounds, adding six steals and a pair of blocks. Isaac Thomas was a boxscore-filler as well, scoring 14 points with 11 boards, adding four assists, three steals and two blocks. The double-doubles were the third this season for both Isaac Thomas and Roberts.
The game was a tight one throughout, with the Hurricanes in front at 50-46 mid-way through the second half. The Bobcats went on a quick 9-2 run to take the lead at the six minute mark and never surrendered it from there.
The Bobcats were out-rebounded 42-36, and out-shot 43 percent (24-56) to 36 percent (25-70) but overcame those numbers by causing 18 turnovers and coughing it up a season-low four times. The four giveaways was one off the school record of three set against Clayton State University Feb. 6, 2010. Particularly remarkable is the fourth and final turnover today came on the last possession as the Bobcat purposely ran out the shot clock.
In the matchup, Issac Thomas had three steals, giving him 136 in his career, passing Tim Jones (1997) into sixth in school history.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Jan. 12 at 3:30 p.m., playing host to UNC Pembroke.
