KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second time in program history, the Georgia College Men's Basketball team has received the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organization announced Thursday.
The honor is given to teams in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA that achieved a 3.0 or better GPA for the 2018-19 season. The Bobcats last won the honor in its first year of existence, the 2012-13 season.
The Bobcats were the lone Peach Belt Conference (PBC) school on the list this season, and just one of three from the three conferences in the Southeast Region, joining Barton College and Newberry College.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner Cup and the 2017 PBC Sportsmanship Institution of the Year, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
