#9 Bobcats Speared by #5 Argos, 7-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 9 Georgia College men's tennis team (9-5) set out to face the No. 5 University of West Florida (14-8) in a first-to-five match in their first day of tennis at the White Sands Tournament. The Bobcats battled, but eventually dropped the match, 7-2.

The Argos jumped out to a commanding lead in doubles, 3-0. Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) got GC started off, but fell to Andrey Pozhidaev and Leandro Ferreira, 8-5. Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) finished first but were toppled by Sean Gunnels and Domenico Sano, 8-3. Tobias Rausch (Mannheim, Germany) and Robert Angelucci (Acworth, Ga.) finished last in a marathon against Mike Lue and Lukas Larsson. The duo eventually dropped their match in a seven point tie-breaker, 9-8.

GC did not go down without a fight, taking two in the singles portion of the match. Leborgne played in the No. 1 spot and downed No. 15 Leandro Ferreira, 7-5, 6-2. Leborgne is now 8-6 overall, and is over .500 in the first slot at 5-4 with his first nationally-ranked win. 

Wadstein lost in a hard fought battle to No. 20 Andrey Pozhidaev, 6-3, 6-2. Rausch had the most intense match of the day, eventually dropping his duel in a tie-breaker, 7-6, 6-4, 10-6.

Bernardes lost to Lue in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Franks was defeated by Sano, 6-1, 6-1 and Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) closed out the day for the Bobcats dropping Larsson in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Andersson improves to a team-best win percentage of 8-2.

The Bobcats will continue the White Sands Invitational hosted by West Florida against No. 15 Drury University tomorrow, March 24 at 10 a.m. central time.
