#29 Bobcat Men Turn Lions into House Cats, 8-1

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 29 Georgia College men's tennis squad (6-7) dominated the University of North Alabama (2-11) Thursday morning, 8-1.  

The Bobcats jumped out early, going up 2-1 after doubles. The duo of Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) took down Jonathan Vick and Rob Whitsitt, 8-3.

No. 9 Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) lost a heartbreaker at the top position to Matt Feury and Alexey Kavalenka, 9-7.  Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) and Kasper Konyves (Helsingborg, Sweden) took down Constantin Witten and Mirko Sommerfeld 8-4.  

No. 24 Leborgne beat Witten with ease in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Andersson finished off Vick in a 6-2, 6-1 romping in the sixth slot. Konyves clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the third slot. In second singles, Wadstein rebounded from a doubles loss to trounce Kavalenka, 6-3, 6-2.

Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) edged by Whitsitt in the first set 7-5 but dominated the second 6-2. Bernardes ended the day with a two-set victory over Sommerfeld, 6-3, 7-6.

Wadstein and Bernardes are still tied for the team lead at 8-5 in singles action. The Andersson/Bernardes win in doubles ties the pairing with Leborgne and Wadstein for an 8-5 mark.

GC plays again Friday, March 30 against Lindenwood University set to start at 9 p.m. central time.
