GC Men’s Tennis Falls at Armstrong in Region Final

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 4-seed Georgia College men's tennis team (12-9) saw its season come to a close Tuesday, as the Bobcats fell to No. 1-seed Armstrong (26-0) 5-0 in the NCAA Southeast Region #1 Final.

The Bobcats put up a good fight at doubles, including an 8-6 battle at the second slot.

The first loss came at the third slot, as Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla topped the Bobcat duo of Tyler Franks (Greensboro, Ga.) and Alex Schubert (Frankfurt, Germany) 8-3.

Next came the ranked battle, as No. 9 Jerome Leborgne (Coordimanche, France) and Johan Wadstein (Helsingborg, Sweden) lost 8-2 to top-ranked Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov.

Wictor Andersson (Karlskoga, Sweden) and Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) pushed No. 16 Sven Lalic and Pedro Scocuglia to the limit in the second slot, eventually falling 8-6.

The first singles loss came by shutout at the second spot, when No. 3 Bonet topped Wadstein. Then, the clincher came in the fifth spot as Andersson dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to No. 32 Lalic.

The loss brings the season to a close for Bobcat men's tennis, a 12-9 year that saw GC finish fifth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). The Bobcat men finished strong, rattling off five straight wins to finish the regular season, and taking a win each in PBC Tournament and NCAA Regional action. Leborgne and Wadstein made All-PBC First Team doubles, while Leborgne was also named to the second team in singles.
