ANDERSON, S.C. – The Georgia College softball team (8-4) gave No. 20 Anderson University (11-1) its first loss of the season and ended their 11-game win streak Saturday at Smethers Field. The Bobcats dropped the first contest 7-5, before winning 7-3.

Two key innings in the first game decided the contest. Collectively in the third and sixth innings the Bobcats recorded four runs and eight hits, however it would be the five runners left on base that would make the difference in a game Georgia College out-hit its opponent, 9-8.

Sophomore Kristen Brooks (Brunswick, Ga.) did all she could to spark her team going 2-for-3 that included a home run that started a third-inning rally with the Bobcats down 5-0. Senior Whitney Horton (Acworth, Ga.) also had a pair of singles as five different Bobcats scored. Freshman pitcher Faith Flanders (Dublin, Ga.) took the loss in relief of sophomore Marisa Boyette (Marietta, Ga.).

Game 2 saw the Bobcats rally in the fifth and sixth innings after falling behind 2-0. This time Georgia College would get all its runs and hits in consecutive innings. Seven different players would score as the Bobcats registered eight hits highlighted by junior Kristen Humphries' (Columbus, Ga.) three-run homer to left center that chased starting pitcher Augie Pena and gave the Bobcats a commanding 7-2 lead in the sixth.

Flanders added a pair of hits, as did winning freshman pitcher Carly Lewis (Seymour, Tenn.). Lewis went the distance getting five strikeouts and allowing six hits in seven innings. She went 2-for-3 at the plate including a double and scored a run.

Georgia College next hosts Brevard College in a doubleheader at the Peeler Complex Tuesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 3 p.m.
