Sandlin spent four years of his college baseball career at Georgia College, redshirting his freshman year and playing for the Bobcats the remaining three. He made quite an impact during those three seasons, recording career batting average of .355, 29 home runs, 159 RBIs and 30 swiped bags in 150 games played. His home run and RBI statistics rank eighth and ninth respectively in the Bobcat record book.
During his career at Georgia College, Sandlin was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) second team after his first season and followed that up by making the All-PBC First Team in his final two years. An ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-American in 2015, Jake transferred to Division I University of Southern Mississippi after graduating from Georgia College the previous spring to play ball with his younger brother Nick. He had a fantastic final season there, putting up a batting average of .353, seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 61 games played.
