GC Women’s Hoops Adds Elskamp

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball program and head coach Maurice Smith announced the signing of Thresia Elskamp Thursday.

A graduate of Potosi High in Potosi, Wis., Elskamp comes to GC after two seasons at Madison College in Madison, Wis. She plans to major in exercise science.

“Thresia is a great addition to our program,” said Smith. “She is a versatile player who can play multiple positions both offensively and defensively. Her versatility will allow us to be creative on both ends of the floor. She is a tough and physical player who loves to compete. The championship experience that she brings from the JUCO ranks will benefit us greatly.”

A two-time All-Conference and All-Region choice for Madison, she earned a slot on the 2010 All-National Tournament Team, helping her squad to a NJCAA D3 National Championship. For the Wolfpack during her two seasons, she scored 593 points for a 9.9 per game clip, adding 6.6 rebounds per contest while the 2010 Defensive Player of the Year, tallied 224 steals over her career.

Elskamp will have two years of eligibility left, as she spent three seasons at Madison, her second year requiring a medical redshirt.

In high school, she was a three-time All-State pick, earning All-Conference honors all four of her varsity seasons. Elskamp was chosen the Six Rivers West Conference Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009.

The youthful Bobcats spent the 2011-12 season without a senior, and finished 4-22 with a 2-15 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record. Freshman Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) became just the second PBC Freshman of the Year in school history, and added All-PBC Third Team honors as well.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
