MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball program and head coach Maurice Smith announced the signing of Brandi McKinney Thursday.

A graduate of Warren Central High in Indianapolis, McKinney comes to GC after two seasons at Wabash Valley College, a two-year school in Mt. Carmel, Ill. She has plans to major in physical therapy or sports management.

“We are very excited about the addition of Brandi McKinney,” said Smith. “She is a very talented basketball player who will make a significant contribution. Brandi comes from a program with a great winning tradition, and she will be an important piece that will certainly make us better. Her ability to score off the dribble and shoot it well will be a great asset to have. We are delighted to add a high-quality student-athlete like Brandi our program.”

A vital member of back-to-back conference champions for Wabash Valley, McKinney helped head coach Zach Loll pick up regional Runner Up honors in 2011. McKinney was invited to the NJCAA All-Star Game in Pensecola, Fla. as a sophomore, tallying 22 points and 10 rebounds per contest. In her freshman season, she averaged 27 points and five boards a game.

McKinney played in two all-star games in high school, posting 21 points and five rebounds per game in her senior season. Under the guidance of head coach Michael Brooks, McKinney helped her team to take a 2010 Sectional Championship.

The youthful Bobcats spent the 2011-12 season without a senior, and finished 4-22 with a 2-15 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record. Shanteona Keys (Roswell, Ga.) became just the second PBC Freshman of the Year in school history, and added All-PBC Third Team honors as well. The Bobcats return 10 players from last year’s squad.

The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
