GC Soccer Shuts Down Georgia Southwestern, 2-0

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – With allowing just three shots in the entire contest, the Georgia College soccer team (9-7-1, 4-5-1 PBC) won its third in a row Wednesday, downing Georgia Southwestern State University (2-13-1, 0-11 PBC) by a 2-0 score at Bobcat Field.

Both goals came in the first half. Sophomore Lindsey Knott (Macon, Ga.) tallied her first goal of the season and the second of her career just over 23 minutes into the game. Classmates Kessler Matheson (Martinez, Ga.) and Abby Dalton (Macon, Ga.) teamed up for the assists, as Matheson sent a pass to the corner, Dalton gathered then found Knott on a runner. Knott knocked a low roller to the right corner for what would be the game-winner.

With 5:24 left in the half, sophomore Rebekah Autry (Winder, Ga.) recorded her second goal in as many games, taking a well-placed corner from Ashley Veilleux (Monroe, Ga.) low and to the left side for the 2-0 lead.

Annie Stephens (Fayetteville, Ga.) and Taylor Cornelius (Dacula, Ga.) split the game in goal, Cornelius making the only save needed.

Dalton's assist total is seven on the season, just one away from the school record; set by both Natalie Thomas (2005) and Beth Coughlin (2007). Dalton's two-year total of 10 is fifth in school history, also tied with Coughlin.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m., wrapping up the regular season by hosting Flagler College for Senior Day.
