Bobcat Women’s Tennis Dominates Lincoln Memorial, 6-1

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - The Georgia College Women's Tennis team (3-2) outpaced Lincoln Memorial University (6-3) 6-1 in non-conference action at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility early Saturday.

Lincoln Memorial gained the early edge, winning second and third doubles to gain the first team point. Kiersten Waugh and Amanda Dahlstrom defeated Irina Berklich (Atlanta) and Jordan Bowie (Macon) 6-3 in the third slot, while Julia Loos and Julia Valls overcame Emilia Richter (Berlin, Germany) and Kim Yatribi (Frejus, France) 7-5 in the second.

However, that point proved to be the only one the Railsplitters would get, as the Bobcat women put on an impressive display in singles action.

Emma Fleming (Suwanee) pulled the Bobcats level, evening up the score at one-all with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 performance over Loos in the fourth slot. Yatribi gave Georgia College the lead in second singles, surrendering just two games to Valls in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Results in first and second singles proved to be all the Bobcats needed to secure the match and their third win of the season.

In top-flight singles, Richter outdueled Johanna Delisse 6-2, 5-7 and Valeria Lopez (Galicia, Spain) erased Marta Pinol, 6-1, 6-3 in second singles.

Paula Garriga (Centelles, Spain) and Bowie each picked up wins to end the day. Garriga finished Vogel 6-4, 6-3 and Bowie held off Waugh 6-2, 7-5.

The win gives the Bobcat women a winning record heading into a showdown with Augusta University for the first Peach Belt Conference action of the season. The rescheduled match is set for Monday, March 4 at 2 p.m.
