MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women's volleyball team is gearing up to host a "Dig Pink" event to promote breast cancer awareness Saturday. The event will also serve as the first Senior Day in program history as the Bobcats host Lander University at 2 p.m.
Prior to the Bobcats' match there will be a four-on-four volleyball tournament in which teams will have the chance to win coupons to local establishments throughout Milledgeville.
Winners will also receive the "Best Seats in the House", a couch on the sideline with pizza provided by Papa John's. The cost to enter the tournament will be $40. Along with the tournament, fans can enter raffles that could earn them exclusive Georgia College volleyball gear.
Dig Pink is the Side-Out Foundation's trademark name for its fundraising events. Side-Out was established in 2004 to unite volleyball players and coaches to work toward a common goal of furthering breast cancer awareness, education, and patient services. All proceeds benefit Side-Out, which turns around and awards grants to medical research organizations dedicated to providing support to breast cancer patients and their families.
A transfer from Division I Western Carolina University, Lauren Johnston (Acworth) is the first senior in program history. Johnston has appeared in 17 matches, registering 44 kills and nine blocks. In 2013 she was named a Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Silver Scholar.
