GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Georgia College Volleyball team (12-4) completed a successful weekend with two more wins Saturday at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC)/South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Crossover at Lander University. The Bobcats swept Tusculum College (11-8) and added a four-set win over Mars Hill University (5-13).
"This was a great weekend for the Bobcats," said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. "The team stuck together to pull out some great wins. Our defensive efforts all weekend were some of the best we've had all season."
In the opener, the Bobcats took three hard-fought sets from the Pioneers, a pair of 26-24 frames capped off by a 25-22 clincher.
Freshman Libby Bochniak (Marietta, Georgia) had a 15-kill, 12-dig double-double while hitting a massive .353. The double-dip was the third for the rookie this season. Sophomore Emily Crowell (Horseheads, New York) and junior Ebony Powers (Jacksonville, Florida) chipped in with nine and eight kills, respectively.
Junior Kayla Brockway (Jacksonville, Florida) had 37 assists, while senior Chandler Ewaldsen (Savannah, Georgia) paced the defense with 21 digs. Joining Ewaldsen with double-digit digs was Bochniak and Powers with 12.
The second match took four sets, but the Bobcats pulled out their fifth win in their last six. After a relatively-simple 25-17 win of set one, the second set got tighter at 26-24. The Mountain Lions got a 28-26 win in the third before Georgia College closed it out 25-23.
The Bobcats had a two-headed attack of freshman Lauren Swift (Alpharetta, Georgia) and junior Taylor Svehla (Cumming, Georgia) against the Lions. Svehla led the team with 13 attacks sent to the hardwood, while Swift was one behind. Both were active up front as well, tallying three blocks apiece.
Posting the first 30-30 match in school history, Brockway had a massive 35-assist, 33-dig double-double. Ewaldsen added 26 digs and freshman Jordyn Moellering (Cumming, Georgia) 12 as the Bobcats pulled in 99 digs as a team.
